Instinctive Singing: Uncovering Your Authentic Voice (or, Be Your Own American Idol!)
This is a performance workshop for singers and/or public speakers. Students come prepared to perform their vocal repertoire, sung or spoken. Ms. Phillips will provide coaching on presentation, interpretation, diction and performance practice. Classes may include some discussion and demonstration of fundamental vocal technique, e.g., breath management and control, basic vocal production, stress management ("stage fright."), etc. Constructive peer coaching is encouraged. The focus is on discovering and cultivating the individual, unique voice of the artist. Through discussion and performance the class explores the differences between a "beautiful voice" and a "great singer," using text declamation and interpretation as a guide to this process. This workshop not only provides students with an opportunity to polish pieces in progress and acquire performance experience, but it also strives to connect the artist to his or her own authentic voice. The body is an instrument, and therefore no one is like any other. The goal is simply to release and develop the organic voice. This class is excellent for recital, performance or audition preparation or for those who just love singing or recitation.
NOTE: This program requires an competent accompanist. If the school is unable to provide one, Ms. Phillips will provide an accompanist at an additional $75 per hour. |
